This is an annual event that you won't want to miss. It is held on the last Friday and Saturday in February in the 17,000 sq. ft. Ocean Lakes Campground recreation center (click here for directions).
The Horry County Museum hosted the first annual quilt gala in 1994 on the lawn of the old county courthouse, with 40 beautiful quilts on display.
The gala has come a long way in 20 years. Now you will see 200+ entries in 6 different catagories. Anyone may participate in the gala by entering a quilt or quilted item. This is not a judged or juried show. The winners are selected by viewers' votes. Ribbons are awarded for the top three places in each category with one quilt honored as Best of Show.
There are various demos each day, including a Bed Turning which showcases Antique quilts. You will hear a bit of the history behind each quilt displayed on the bed.
There is also a Merchant Marketplace with lots of quilting notions, fabrics and patterns available.
